U.S. federal limits: 102 in (8 ft 6 in) wide and 80,000 lb gross on the Interstate. Height limits are set by each state. Deck heights are typical; check with the carrier. Container sizes are typical inside dimensions; leave room for lashing.

How it works

Loaded height = deck height + machine height. Typical decks: flatbed 60 in, step deck 40 in, RGN or lowboy 24 in.

Legal width on U.S. highways is 102 in. Height limits are set by states: 13 ft 6 in in most, 14 ft or more in many western states.

Container fit uses typical inside sizes and door openings (20 ft and 40 ft standard: about 92 × 90 in door; high cube: 92 × 102 in).

Common questions

What is the legal load height?

Most states allow 13 ft 6 in; many western states allow 14 ft. Check every state on the route.

Will a mini excavator fit in a shipping container?

If its transport height is under about 8 ft 5 in and its width under about 7 ft 8 in, it fits through a high cube door; many machines up to about 5 t do. Check the exact transport size with the checker above.
